The "Don'ts" of Christianity or, better yet, the "Don'ts" of the self-righteous can just plain overwhelm you as well as your walk with Christ and greatly diminish the divine beauty of God many times. Some well-meaning (I hope) Christians truly turn God into a Gestapo-like concentration-camp commander which is the total opposite of our loving Father who gave us his only true son to save us.
This is my God, a God that, through first-hand experience gained from my personal relationship with him by his personal invitation, is a loving-loving-loving God who helps me navigate life's tempests. My God is available 24-7. My God cheers me up and smiles as he wraps his arms around me after I have just failed miserably at being an example of his son, Jesus Christ. My God gives me strength when all human advice is to quit...give up. My God listens when I rarely listen to him. My God tells me I'm good when, plainly, I fall far-short of the definition. My God tells me I understand the most important part of his "Rules" because I understand the spirit of those "Rules." My God says that it is good enough when I cannot recite verbatim every word of his Word. My God, like the true Father he is, loves me unconditionally and spoils me, lavishing unimaginable spiritual riches upon me, just for having faith in Him, just for loving Him, and just for leaning on Him.
Next time, don't let the "Don'ts" get you down. Next time, let God's fatherly-love lift you up.
